BIO
Arista Wilson is an artist based in Baltimore currently pursuing work that sways in the intersection of functional and sculptural ceramics. Arista uses the plasticity of porcelain to abstract familiar forms, and the flux of glaze to extract color and image. A porcelain pitcher might have a spout shaped like a star, and a precise painting might melt into a colorful puddle in its frame. Arista’s process is full of play; it includes pinching, painting, hand-building, wheel-throwing, coiling, adding, subtracting, stamping, and sketching.
Arista’s love for art began in traditional landscape painting. Forever fond of working plein-air, Arista works quickly to capture a moment and learn through multiplicity.
Arista graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in May 2023 with a BFA in ceramics and painting.
