SLAW JARS

Slaw jars are the very beginning of my current body of work. They started off as test tiles, a fidget for my fingers, a way of experimenting and playing.... falling in love with clay over and over again through slaw!

They are thin, porcelain handmade objects, painted with translucent glazes and delicate linework. They toy with the intersection of functional craft and decorative ceramics, and reference a history of porcelain figurines that I might have found in both my American and Chinese my grandmothers’ cabinets.

There is a lightness and playfulness to the slapdash approach to their making. Through their pinched surface and layered slab-like coils, they acknowledge the processes in which they were made and the way they belong in a hand.

These objects are handhelds. They are meant to be curious, and inviting.
